COTA Campjazz, through its supporters, grants and donations, has several scholarships available for students with need. You will see the different types and requirements for each scholarship. Not all scholarships are based upon financial need but the majority are. Musical capability and desire are also factors in deciding. The scholarship application deadline for 2017 has passed. We will begin accepting applications for the 2018 camp in the fall of 2017.
- Bob Hartman Memorial Scholarship
Bob was a Singer, Musician, Music Teacher, Band Conductor, Choir Director, and fan of classical and jazz music. Gifted with an ear for perfect pitch, he made his living as a Musician and Piano Tuner. His clear tenor voice was heard in bands and choirs from Fred Waring and the Pennsylvanians to Jazz Mass at the Gap Jazz Festival to his beloved Presbyterian Church of the Mountain Choir, where he was also proud Choir Director. His accapello singing of “The Lord’s Prayer” was heavenly, and probably still is.
In addition to vocals, he played Saxophone, Clarinet and Drums in his early years and during his service in the Korean War in the Army Band in the ‘50s. He then continued drumming and singing with his own band and others all around the Poconos.
- Campjazz Supporters Scholarship
This is made possible by the tremendous support of our community members. Each year various individuals donate money so they can help a student with financial need be able to attend camp. This scholarship requires some work study on the part of the student, by helping to promote the jazz festival and camp on social media.
- Presbyterian Church of the Mountain
Presbyterian Church of the Mountain sponsors a fully paid COTA Camp Jazz scholarship for a young musician to further promote a passion for Jazz and for the music community that has distinguished roots in Delaware Water Gap. Qualifications: Strong candidates will have high academic standing, are committed to musical excellence, want to work with the Jazz greats and further develop their performance experience.
