John Ballantyne – Composition

At the Deer Head Inn at lunch time on Wendesday, June 26, 2019, Jon Ballantyne will join CampJazz for a special Master Class on Composition.

For more than three decades, Canadian/American, based pianist and composer Jon Ballantyne has performed solo concerts and with his trios and quartets, and as a sideman across the USA, Canada, Japan, the UK, Ireland, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Holland, France, Germany, Italy and Israel.

Ballantyne’s early interest in jazz ultimately led to studies with Dave Holland, Lee Konitz, Cecil Taylor, Ed Blackwell and Kenny Wheeler, and at the University of North Texas, The Banff Center for the Arts and McGill University.

Jon has performed and recorded with musicians such as Joe Henderson, Paul Bley, Bill Goodwin, Dave Liebman, Dewey Redman, Roy Haynes, Billy Hart, Drew Gress, Seamus Blake and Ingrid Jensen.

Jon has released 11 albums under his own name, and has won 2 Juno awards (Canadian Grammy).
